Fart spray is the single most misused product we sell. Not because it is complicated. Because it is far, far stronger than anybody believes, and every new owner finds this out the same way: all at once, in a small room, surrounded by people they were hoping to keep.
So here is the manual nobody prints on the bottle. How much to use, where to aim it, how long you are stuck with it, and how to get it out of a sofa at midnight while apologising to a person you live with.
What You Have Actually Bought
You have bought a very small amount of something your nose is biologically incapable of ignoring, floating in a liquid whose entire job is to make it stick to things.
That second part is the bit that gets people. It is not a smell that drifts past and leaves. It is a smell that arrives, takes its shoes off and asks what is for dinner. Understand that before you press the nozzle and you will be fine. Ignore it and you will be buying an enzyme cleaner at eleven at night with the face of a man who has made choices.
Rule One: You Are Going To Use Too Much
Everybody does. The first burst feels like nothing, because you are holding the bottle and your brain has already decided this is normal. So you go again. Then a third for luck.
Congratulations. You have now produced roughly four times the intended effect in a room with one window that does not open properly.
One burst. That is the dose. If you are standing there thinking that surely one is not enough, that is precisely the moment in the process where every single person before you has been wrong. Nobody in the history of this product has walked away saying they wished they had used more.
How Long It Hangs Around, By Surface
Everything depends on what you hit. In rough order of how sorry you will be:
- Outdoors, open air: a few minutes. The wind is on your side and takes most of the credit.
- Hard surface, window open: fifteen to thirty minutes of prime entertainment, then a slow retreat.
- Hard surface, sealed room: an hour or more, and considerably longer for anyone trapped in there.
- Carpet, sofa, curtains, a car: days. Genuinely days. Cars are the worst possible target because they are small, sealed, and made almost entirely of fabric. A car is not a prank. A car is a project.
The rule that falls out of this is short enough to tattoo on your hand. Spray hard things. Never spray soft things.
Spray, Bomb, Or Machine? Choose Your Fighter.
Three tools, three completely different jobs, and people mix them up constantly.
Sprays give you control. You decide the dose and you can stop at any time, which is a luxury you will not appreciate until you have used something that does not offer it. 30ml Liquid Fart Spray is small enough to carry and, crucially, small enough to limit the scale of any mistake. Stinky Spray and Fart Spray Prank Trick Spray sit in the same sensible bracket.
Bombs trade control for delay. A pack of Smelly Fart Bags lets you squeeze, drop and be two rooms away by the time anything happens, which is magnificent for deniability and absolutely terrible for stopping. There is no off switch. There has never been an off switch. Outdoors only, and we say that with love.
Machines give you the joke with none of the consequences. A Fart Machine with Remote is reusable forever, leaves nothing behind, and is the only one of the three you can point at an office without updating your CV. If you are unsure which category you want, it is this one. It is always this one.
The Three Places To Aim It, And The One Everybody Ruins
Nearly everybody sprays into the middle of the room. It is the worst option available. The smell spreads evenly, nobody can work out where it came from, and it fades before the tension has built. You have wasted a burst on a shrug.
These three actually work:
- Under a seat. One burst on the underside of a chair. Body heat lifts it about a minute after somebody sits down, which means it arrives late and arrives beneath them. Devastating. Completely deniable.
- Into an air path. A doorway, a vent, a desk fan. Let the building do the distribution. You are management now.
- On something portable. A hard plastic object somebody will pick up and carry around. They become the source, they travel with it, and it takes them a remarkably long time to work out that the problem is following them because it is them.
Cleanup: A Guide Written By People Who Have Had To
You will need this eventually, and probably sooner than you think. In order:
- Ventilate first. Open everything and get air moving through, not just one sad window at one end. This does most of the work.
- Baking soda. Heavily on carpet or upholstery, leave it for hours, then vacuum. It absorbs rather than masks, which is the whole point.
- White vinegar in water. A light wipe over hard surfaces. Unglamorous. Effective.
- Enzyme cleaner. The pet accident kind. This is the one that genuinely works on fabric, and honestly you should own a bottle before you own a bottle of spray.
- Do not reach for air freshener first. Spraying vanilla over this creates something new and considerably worse than either ingredient. You will have invented a smell. It will not be a triumph.
Where Absolutely Not To Do This
Genuine bit, no jokes. Not in schools, hospitals, courthouses, government buildings, shops, planes, trains or any public transport. In a lot of places that is a criminal matter rather than a laugh, and the consequences are wildly out of proportion to the gag.
Not at anybody's face. Not near food. Not at anybody with asthma or any breathing condition. Not at somebody who has already told you they hate it. Check the age guidance on your specific bottle and keep it well away from small children.
Your First Bottle
If this is your first, buy small rather than strong. Learn dose control on something forgiving instead of on your best friend's sofa. 30ml Liquid Fart Spray is the sensible starting point, and it is the one we would hand a beginner.
If you already know what you are doing and you are working outdoors where the wind eats half of everything, step up to Extra Strong Stink Spray.
And if your target is the retaliating type, buy them a Fart Survival Set afterwards. It is the closest thing this industry has ever produced to a formal apology.
